Following a triumphant concert, the RED, the renowned American alternative rock metal quartet, is set to return to Italy for an unmissable live event.
Get ready to experience a unique evening on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Legend Club in Milan, where they will perform exclusively to showcase their latest work, “RATED R“. Tickets will be available starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 19, exclusively through the official DICE platform.
Formed back in 2002, THE RED has garnered Grammy nominations and achieved RIAA gold certification, thanks to their impeccable blend of sophisticated instrumentation and incisive lyrics. With a dynamic, eclectic, and engaging style, their artistic talent reaches ever more breathtaking and irresistible heights with the release of their highly anticipated eighth studio album.
NDP had the pleasure of interviewing them:
1. Congratulations on your new album “RATED R”! How would you describe the evolution of your sound and artistic vision compared to your previous works?
I think with each album a lot of the evolution of the material is based on where we are in our lives and the state of the world with each album. The music will usually come first before lyrics so we like to explore with different instruments and soundscapes based on the mood of the song. We usually go in with a pretty open mind on what could be and try to expand out musically from there.
2. Your new album “RATED R” tackles very deep and current themes. What was the main inspiration behind this work, and how did you approach creating such an emotionally intense piece?
I think with every album we have a core theme that interweaves between all the albums is finding redemption in some pretty tough subjects or things that we or our fans have faced. Rated R is no different asking deep questions about how we deal with loss and feelings of loss of control.
3. You’ve stated that RATED R features two significant changes: Anthony Armstrong on production and the addition of drummer Brian Medeiros. How have these new dynamics influenced the recording process and the final outcome of the album?
Anthony has come a long way as a producer and really started back on the 4th album Release the Panic. This will be the first album where Anthony is fully involved with all the aspects of the Producer’s role and you can tell that it really shines with his personality coming through with each note and guitar strum. Brian Medeiros brings so much when it comes to the driving force of this album and it really is telling on the album how much Brian put into this record because this really is the first album where we have really driven the drums to the next level in intensity with the production of this album.
4. “Surrogates” and “Cold World” seem to be very powerful and engaging singles. Is there a particular story behind the creation of one of these songs that you would like to share with your fans?
Probably two of my favorite songs on the album. Love the drive of Surrogates this song does not let up and is in your face as it drives home the message of online bullies that try to control people. Cold World in the studio was one of the songs that just came naturally. We worked co-wrote with Keith Wallen on this one. It was a blast working with him.
5. After years, you will finally be returning to Italy for a unique concert in Milan on June 16, 2024. What can we expect from this performance, and what are your expectations for this event?
Well, we love the people of Italy and their passion. Every time we have been in your country the shows have been one of the more memorable parts to our career. Last time we were there the fans were singing every word. I would expect the same thing when we come back and looking forward to every moment.
6. You’ve had an incredibly diverse career, with successes ranging from music to television, film, and video games. What has been your most memorable experience to date?
One of may favorite experiences is when we performed live in front of the Dove awards with Brian Head Welch and played the song Death of Me. I remember hanging out after the Grammy’s and running into Weird Al Yankovic. We have had some crazy shows along the way and seen and been to some amazing places in the world that most people to get to see in their lifetime. We are for sure blessed and happy that we have experienced these things.
7. How do you see the future of RED? Are there any new projects or collaborations you can anticipate us?
I think Red is always creative and music will always be on the forefront. I hope that we are able to continue to make records for our loving fans and give you something that is fresh and still stays true to our RED style.
8. Finally, is there a message you would like to share with your Italian fans ahead of your concert in Milan?
We are so excited to see some of our favorite fans in the world and the joy and wonder that you have for music. You have so much passion for life and we are looking forward to sharing that with you soon!
