ASIS International: A Global Network for Security
ASIS International, founded in 1955 as the American Society for Industrial Security, is now the largest global organization dedicated to security management professionals. With over 34,000 members in 155 countries and more than 240 active chapters, ASIS is a globally recognized authority in the field of security.
Its mission is to promote excellence and leadership in the sector by supporting professionals through training programs, internationally recognized certifications, scientific publications, industry standards, and numerous events aimed at fostering networking and the sharing of best practices.
The Strategic Role of National Chapters
A fundamental part of ASIS’s structure is represented by its national chapters, which enable members to connect with peers in their local regions, develop their skills, and actively contribute to the growth of the association.
The ASIS Italy Chapter is one of the most dynamic and active in Europe. Composed of professionals from leading companies in industry, finance, consulting, and investigations, the Chapter aims to support the professional and ethical development of its members by promoting research, studies, and initiatives on strategic security topics.
2024–2025 Board and the Three Strategic Lines
The 2024–2025 Board, led by Francesco Zio, has introduced a governance structure based on three main pillars: Profession, Challenges, and Association.
Line 1 – Profession: Advancing the Security Manager Role
Under the “Profession” line, the Chapter promotes projects such as Women in Security, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, ASIS professional certifications, and the enhancement of thematic communities.
Line 2 – Challenges: Tackling Emerging Threats
The “Challenges” line includes research and study initiatives on emerging areas such as workplace violence, protection of cultural heritage, artificial intelligence applied to security, the human factor and HROs (High Reliability Organizations), travel security, crisis management, and cybersecurity.
Line 3 – Association: Institutional Engagement, Youth, and the Arts
The “Association” line focuses on institutional communication, youth involvement through projects like Security is You(th)!, and partnerships with the arts sector through the Security Made Art campaign.
A Chapter Active Across Europe and Beyond
ASIS Italy actively collaborates with ASIS Europe, participates in international events, and supports its members in preparing for ASIS certification exams including CPP, PSP, and PCI.
A Newsletter to Bridge Generations and Competencies
The purpose of this initiative is to enable ASIS Italy to contribute actively through a regular newsletter, which will serve as an editorial space where the experience of seasoned Security Managers meets the energy of recent graduates and young researchers in Security Studies.
The newsletter has a dual goal: on one hand, to spread a culture of security, technical knowledge, practical tools, and reflections on future scenarios; on the other, to create a meeting point between generations, encouraging dialogue, innovation, and the growth of an increasingly aware and prepared professional community.
Scientific Contributions and Interdisciplinary Approaches
Contributions from Italian professionals will be complemented by scientific articles showcasing academic research, experimental projects, and interdisciplinary approaches, with the goal of building an inclusive, authoritative, and forward-thinking narrative.
The newsletter will address the challenges of our time, covering topics such as digitalization of security, protection of critical infrastructure, integrated risk management, and organizational resilience. With a language that is accessible yet rigorous, each issue will provide valuable content for industry professionals, students, and institutional decision-makers.
